Havens for Hospitalized Children
Starlight Sites are beautifully designed, inviting hospital environments created to provide pediatric patients with a place to relax, play and interact with others during their hospital stay. A distinctive part of our service to children, Starlight Sites provide young patients with a chance to escape the rigors of hospital treatment. Offering a variety of entertainment and play activities, these rooms range from high-tech sanctuaries to young child playrooms, providing video games, computers, toys, crafts, and best of all, the company of other children.
Starlight Sites were created to meet the needs of kids coping with the stresses of long hospital stays by stimulating the senses and providing an antidote to loneliness. Off limits to medical procedures, doctors must check their white coats at the door. Starlight Sites provide pediatric patients freedom from the isolation of a hospital room and the fear of numerous procedures. Whether viewing their favorite sci-fi thriller on the big screen, playing a challenging video game, or expressing creativity through artwork, the effects on young patients are remarkable. While each is unique, every Starlight Site offers respite from the tedious routine most pediatric patients face. These child and teen friendly spaces help replace anxiety with feelings of relaxation. For children confined to a hospital, the opportunity to have fun in a well-equipped, inviting atmosphere assists in the healing process.
There are currently 60 Starlight Sites in major pediatric hospitals. Thanks to generous partnerships with two of our biggest corporate partners, Toys "R" Us and Hollywood Video, Starlight Sites are being built around the country like never before.
